This journal's owner provided participants with unusual phrases, from which we selected one to use as inspiration in creating a page.

Cindersisters...

Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty were the subjects of an art journal which recently came my way. The owner provided an assortment of images and templates which, interestingly enough, made the job both easier (didn't have to search and obtain) and more challenging (had to stay within the prescribed limits). I chose to focus on the stepsisters in the Cinderella story, and wonder if there would be a story without the stepsisters...

A round robin journal...

The next journal is in my hands. The owner has asked participants to select a postage stamp (from a selection provided) and incorporate that stamp on the page created. My page, shown here, features a bee stamp and includes a favorite ATC. Having collected stamps at one time, I really enjoyed this journal...especially browsing through the stamps she sent for us to choose from.

Something new...

A recent session at Scrapbook Cupboard in Bridgewater resulted in the creation of this metal sampler. Working with metal is relatively new for me, though I have tried it once or twice before, but not to this extent. With each sample we learned a new technique for altering the sheet of metal - embossing, debossing, antiquing, etc. We used a variety of tools, molds, paints and inks to achieve the various effects. My favorite sample is #4 (middle row, first column). To better view the image, click on it to bring up an enlarged photo.
I've also been working on ATCs for recent & upcoming swaps, which I will share as soon as I get them scanned.

I do so love a good swap...

A fun project created for an upcoming yankee swap I am participating in. Upholstery fabrics form the base of the sack, onto which I collaged some lace, paper and metal findings. I will fill the sack with a few small items - it'll be so much fun to see who gets my little treasure - I hope she likes it!

Fantasy destination...

Another art journal has come my way. The owner has requested participants to reveal a place they would travel if they could go anywhere in the world. Well, this was an easy one. Since forever, I have always dreamed of going to Egypt - a destination of mystery, antiquity and beauty. These are the pages I created...probably the most I will ever see of my fantasy destination.

Altered dominoes...my first attempt

With a number of projects to do before the end of the month, I decided to spend the weekend working on an altered domino piece for COF (an online art-swap group). I also wanted to try out my new toy, the Silhouette digital craft cutter.

My intent was to alter the dominoes and make what would look like an old travel journal. I colored the domino pieces, which measure 2"x1", with alcohol inks and stamped each "cover" with part of a map image. The letters and plane image were cut from black cardstock with the Silhouette. I cannot believe how accurately it cut such small pieces...the lower case letters are only 3/16 of an inch tall! The letters and images were glued onto the pieces; then the top surfaces were covered with Diamond Glaze. The "inside" of the journal is stamped water-color paper with miniature postcards and a watch applied. Perhaps I will add more to the inside, a bookmark maybe, or a pen.
